Northeastern REMC declares Nexsys' initial activities a success.

Fort Wayne, Indiana, 24 August 1999: Nexsys Commtech International Inc. (Nexsys) recently completed installation of its wireless Home Gateway System for Northeastern Rural Electric Membership Corporation (Northeastern REMC) in 50 locations within the Fort Wayne service area. This Project represents the first U.S. pilot for Nexsys and a value added technology solution for Northeastern REMC. According to Northeastern's Vice President of Business Services, Mr. Gene Donaghy, "The Nexsys wireless Home Gateway System will enable us to be more successful in the evolving utility market. By integrating the Nexsys System into our distribution network, we can provide unique value-added services to our customers."

"We are fortunate to be working with Northeastern REMC as they have given us the opportunity to demonstrate the value of our two-way wireless solution to the utility market" says Nexsys President and CEO, Mr. Rob Williams. Manufactured by ZTest Electronics of Mississauga, the technology demonstrates an effective technique to remotely read electric, gas and water meters; monitor smoke detectors and control loads within the home.

Nexsys Commtech International, based in Waterloo, Ontario, has maintained a focus on developing value added customer services for electric, gas and water utilities. Cost effective communications technology has made our wireless gateway system particularly attractive to utilities as it combines meter data management with revenue generating value added services. Open standard based, the Nexsys Remote Gateway System responds to the need for cost effectiveness while providing an attractive revenue stream through additional consumer focused services.

The Pilot program at Northeastern is one of four such programs being co-sponsored nationally by the Cooperative Research Network. Northeastern REMC provides electric service to six northeastern Indiana counties.

ZTEST's involvement with Nexsys dates back to 1996, when an initial joint venture agreement was signed between both companies. ZTEST has continued to assist Nexsys with additional investment capital, as well as ongoing design and manufacturing services. ZTEST continues to be one of the larger shareholders in Nexsys and is very optimistic about the future potential for the Nexsys Home Gateway System.

ZTEST offers Strategic Partner services in electronic design, development and manufacturing to emerging high tech companies in return for long-term manufacturing contracts, fees for services and equity positions.
